When I meet with businesses, one of their top priorities is building a network of local people. Their reasons for wanting to build a network are as varied as the businesses they represent. Some want to attract more customers, while others are looking to build a peer network. Some business owners want to feel more connected to the community and are looking for ways to be more active and contribute to the community where their business operates.
At the Greater Freeport Partnership, we recognize the importance of developing and nurturing networks. That is why we offer so many ways for you to build them. With our monthly Rise n’ Shines (usually the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 am) and Business After Hours (usually the third Thursday of each month at 5 pm), we offer abundant networking events so you can make connections that are valuable to your business. At our Human Resource and Manufacturing Roundtables, people in those niche areas can meet others in similar work circumstances and develop a network of peers. Through programs like our Women’s Enrichment Network, BASE Camp, and marketing classes, we provide opportunities to build connections paired with education.
For many people, networking is a four-letter word. It ranks up there with public speaking and riding roller coasters as people’s least favorite things to do. Regardless, like roller coasters and public speaking, once you get into it, you often find it isn’t as challenging as you thought. Sometimes, you even have fun! If you need a little boost, here are some excellent tips on “How to Master the Art of Networking” from Ian Sandler the co-Founder of Riley’s Way.
Please join us at our next Rise n’ Shine at 7:30 am at Liberty Village on June 6 and at our Business After Hours at Ensign Jade Acres on June 20. We look forward to networking with you!
