October is National Manufacturing Month. Throughout the month, you will see information regarding economic impact, business spotlights, and promotion of this vital industry. Manufacturing has long been a cornerstone of Stephenson County’s economy. From producing essential goods to driving local employment, the industry plays a crucial role in sustaining the region’s economic growth.
As of recent years, manufacturing has evolved with technology, creating exciting new opportunities for workers and businesses alike. With over 4,000 jobs in the sector, it remains one of the largest industries in the area, providing stable careers that support families and the community.
To ensure a strong workforce for the future, local educational institutions are helping expose students to the wealth of opportunities available in manufacturing. Manufacturing Day, held in collaboration with CareerTec, Highland Community College, and area high schools, offers students a hands-on look at modern manufacturing processes and careers. This event, held on Thursday, October 17 at Highland Community College allows students to tour facilities, meet with industry leaders, and see firsthand how advancements in technology have reshaped the industry.
CareerTec and Highland Community College are instrumental in preparing students with the skills necessary to succeed in this field. Through career pathways and hands-on technical training, students are gaining valuable experience that can lead to rewarding jobs right here in Stephenson County.
Participating in Manufacturing Day helps bridge the gap between education and industry, showing students that a future in manufacturing doesn’t just involve manual labor—it involves innovation, problem-solving, and high-tech solutions. By exposing young people to these opportunities early, Stephenson County is investing in a thriving local workforce and a prosperous future for the region.
