7 Must Do’s in February in Stephenson County

February has finally come! It may not seem like a large milestone, but when January seems like the longest month of the year, we will celebrate inching toward longer days. And February brings some great events and activities to emerge from the throws of cabin fever and explore great venues in Freeport and Stephenson County. Here are some great events and openings you won’t want to miss this month!

  1. Jane Addams as a Reformer, February 6 at 6:30 pm – This American History Lecture Series is hosted by the Freeport Public Library and presented by Andy Dvorak featuring stories and ideals of the work of Stephenson County’s own Jane Addams.
  2. Freeport Art Museum Wine Tasting, February 7 at 7 pm – Secure your tickets today for this annual FAM fundraiser featuring cheese from Baumgartner’s Cheese Shop and wine and spirits from Cork & Keg Liquors. The event is also a great opportunity to check out the current exhibits at the art museum.
  3. The Green Book: Navigating the Journey to Equality, February 11 at 10 am – An American History presentation by Tammy Gibson is hosted by Highland Community College in the Clarence Mitchell Library. In addition to the presentation, an exhibit will be open for viewing from 11 am to 2 pm.
  4. Candyland Ball, February 14 at 6 pm and Mom & Me Masquerade, February 28 at 6 pm – The Freeport Park District hosts annual events for young ones and their guardians to dance and enjoy a special evening at the Masonic Event Center. Be sure to register in advance as these fun events can fill up quickly!
  5. Dandelion Wine Book Discussion, February 18 at 11 am – Freeport Public Library’s One Book One Freeport book discussion is an opportunity for readers to give their thoughts on the book and their reading experience with conversation starter questions and open dialogue. If you can’t attend this mid-day discussion, plan to join for the evening discussion on Thursday, February 27 at 6:30 pm.
  6. Partnership Annual Dinner & Awards, February 20 at 6 pm – As a member of the Greater Freeport Partnership, we invite you to join us for our biggest night of the year! Network with more than 300 business professionals in attendance and help to honor and celebrate our award winners for their efforts in improving Freeport and Stephenson County in 2024.
    If you are a member of the Greater Freeport Partnership, make sure to RSVP your attendance for our annual dinner and awards night. This event is the biggest networking opportunity of the year and provides the opportunity to celebrate organizations and individuals doing great work in our region.
  7. Arctic Ale & Art Walk, February 22 at noon – The winter blues are no more when you take to the streets of downtown Freeport to enjoy beer samples and artisan craftsmanship within the unique boutiques and stores. More than 15 participating locations will host samples of beer and other treats while you peruse the wonderful displays. Your tasting cup is only $10.
