The inaugural Pretzel Fest is scheduled for April 24 in Downtown Freeport to celebrate the history and comradery of the Pretzel City. Activities, food, shopping and fun for all ages between 10 am to 4 pm on Chicago Avenue.

The Pretzel Fest BBQ Competition will kick off in the early hours of the morning with aromas to entice all residents and visitors. The Stephenson County Historical Society will present fun facts on the history of Freeport as the Pretzel City, and Mayor Jodi Miller will deliver a proclamation commemorating April 24 as Pretzel Day in Freeport. The event will also host performances by S&R Dance Team, La Danza de Los Viejitos – Folkloric Dance from Michoacán, MX, and a re-enactment by Benjamin Franklin. Pretzel City Cross Fit will supply a community workout and burpee challenge and Your Core Being will guide yoga in the street.

In addition to dozens of beautiful boutiques and unique shops already found downtown, family-friendly street vendors will be on hand for extra enjoyment.

“Pretzel Fest has been a long time coming for Freeport! In a town where everyone is proud of their heritage and their pretzel mascot, it is an ideal occasion to honor its uniqueness and what makes us special,” said Greater Freeport Partnership Brand Director Nicole Haas.

Pretzel Fest will also be the first event for the Downtown Freeport Festival District. Visitors have the option to purchase a beverage from participating downtown establishments and walk throughout downtown to shop and celebrate festivities.
